Worcestershire sign pacer Alzarri Joseph for early part of English County Championship
|West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph has signed for Worcestershire for the upcoming season of English County Championship. Alzarri Joseph is expected to play the first seven matches for Worcestershire in 2021 English County Championship.
The 24-year old is currently playing for West Indies in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka. After the conclusion of the Test series, Alzarri Joseph will fly to the UK on 4th April. He is expected to play for Worcestershire in their opening game against Essex at Chelmsford on 8th April.
Alzarri Joseph expressed his pleasure after signing for Worcestershire for the upcoming season of English County Championship. He said that the county side was interested in him for this year’s competition. He further stated that he always wanted to play in English County Championship. He also said that he was looking forward to meet his teammates and working on skills with bowling Coach Alan Richardson.
West Indies Cricket Board had given NOC to Alzarri Joseph so that he could travel to the UK an play in English County Championship.
After helping West Indies team win U-19 World Cup, he quickly grabbed the headlines and made his Test debut in 2016. In 14 Tests played, Alzarri Joseph has claimed 38 wickets at an average of 39.44. In limited-overs cricket, pacer has claimed 54 wickets in 34 matches at an average of 30.01
In the T20 format, Alzarri Joseph has claimed 27 wickets in 26 matches at an average of 29.33. He has played in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians and holds the record for best bowling figures by a pacer in IPL i.e. 6 for 12.
Worcestershire will be hoping that Alzarri Joseph can make an impression with the ball in hand in this year’s competition. There is no doubt that pacer would keen to make an impact in first stint in the English County Championship.
