Virat Kohli completes 5000 runs in Indian Premier League
|Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain Virat Kohli completed 5,000 runs in the Indian Premier League during the 14th game of ongoing Indian Premier League played against Mumbai Indians.
Kohli became the first batsman to score 5,000 runs in the Indian Premier League. Since the inception of IPL, Kohli has only played for Royal Challengers Bangalore. India’s premier batsman has been in ominous form with the bat for past six months and hasn’t quite been able to replicate so far in this year’s competition. He was instrumental in India winning their maiden one-day series against South Africa in South Africa.
In a game played against Mumbai, when Kohli went on to complete 5,000 runs in IPL as he reached 33 runs. He went past Suresh Raina who was leading run-scorer in the competition and held the record for quite some time. The left-hander has scored 4,558 runs in IPL and 424 runs in CLT20. He went on to score his 34th half-century for Royal Challengers Bangalore but it all vain as the side lost the game to Mumbai.
Kohli’s main focus will be to help Royal Challengers Bangalore win their maiden crown this year. The side has never a trophy since the inception of the competition in 2008. Despite having star-studded batting lineup at their disposal, they have failed to cross the line on two occasions. RCB hasn’t set the world alight with their performances in the competition. They are languishing in the bottom half of the IPL points table.
Virat Kohli will certainly be keen to raise his game for RCB in the remaining games of the competition as they currently lying at the bottom of the points table. The right-handed batsman has been inconsistent with the bat and will surely need to produce something special to turn thing around for RCB in the competition.
