Virat Kohli becomes third-highest run scorer in T20 format
|Virat Kohli once again led from the front with the bat to steer his side to a comfortable six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the one-off T20 game played at Colombo. The contest was pretty one-sided as visitors chased down the runs without any hiccups. Kohli scored 82 runs for India in the game and has added another record to his name.
He became the third highest runs scorer in the T20 format after surpassing Martin Guptill’s tally of 1,806 runs. He now stands at 1,830 runs in the format for India. Virat Kohli is now behind New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum who tops the list with 2,140 runs while Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan sits at second place with 1,889 runs. It is certain that Kohli will soon lead as both the cricketers in the lead have retired from the international arena.
The Indian captain has 17 half centuries to his name but has yet to score a hundred in a T20 format for India. He averages 53.82 in the T20 format which is quite remarkable given the short nature of the format.
