Virat Kohli becomes highest scoring Asian Test captain

Virat Kohli added another milestone to his name by becoming the first Asian player with most runs as captain of the side. Indian captain went past Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq, who has scored 4214 runs from 56 matches as captain. Kohli scored 45 runs in the first innings of the second Test played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad. Currently, Kohli has scored 4233 runs from 42 matches at an average of 65.22. He simply has been scintillating form over the past couple of years for India in red-ball cricket.

South Africa’s Graeme Smith leads the list for most runs as a captain in Test cricket. The left-hander has scored 8659 runs from 109 matches at an average of 47.83 with 25 centuries to his name.  Australia’s Allan Border has scored 6623 from 93 games at an average of 50.94 while Ponting has scored 6542 runs from 77 matches. India’s Virat Kohli lies eighth on the list.

Since taking over the captaincy from MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli has smashed 17 hundreds from 42 matches played for India in Test cricket. He also became the second most successful captain of all time for India with a win at Trent Bridge against England.

He will certainly be keen to continue his rich vein of form and score a lot of runs in the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
