Afghanistan’s upsetting Windies in World T20

On March 27, 2016, Afghanistan team, who is relatively young on the international cricket scene, created the biggest upset of the year by defeating eventual winner West Indies during the World T20 encounter. The victory was even more impressive considering the fact that the team from the war-hit country qualified for the main round of the cricket’s premier short format tournament for the first time.

On April 3, 2016, West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite showed his worth by snatching away a win from the jaws of the English in the final of the World T20 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.The tall all-rounder, with 19 required off the last over, smashed four consecutive sixes off four balls off England’s Ben Stokes as Darren Sammy’s men became the first side to win World T20 two times.

Zimbabwe drawing third ODI

On November 19, 2016, Zimbabwe pacer Donald Tiripano produced an astonishing over to clinch a draw in a match where defeat looked eminent.With just four needed off the final over and with five wickets in hand, West Indian side looked all set to achieve a comfortable victory.However, 28-year-old Tiripano, who was bowling his sixth over of the day, gave away just three runs, as hosts achieved an unlikely point from the match.

England’s run massacre at Trent Bridge against Pakistan

On August 30, 2016, England team under the leadership of Eoin Morgan smashed Azhar Ali’s Pakistan for the world-record total of 444 in a 50-over match in Nottingham.Opener Alex Hales smashed a breath taking 171 off just 122 balls to lead the way for the hosts, as the Three Lions set a new record for highest total in an innings in the 50-over match.Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz was the most expensive bowler from the visiting side, as he gave away a whopping 110 runs in his 10 overs.

Faf Du Plessis ball-tempering controversy

On November 18, 2016, South African Test captain Faf du Plessis was charged for ball-tempering for the incident which took place in the second of the three-match series against Australia.The 32-year-old was caught on camera for polishing the ball while having an artificial substance in his mouth, for which he was fined 100 percent of his match fee, but he avoided a ban for the third match.Du Plessis later went on to score a stunning century in the Adelaide day-night Test, however Australia went on to win the match by seven wickets.
