Suresh Raina became the first player to complete 5000 runs in Indian Premier League
|Chennai’s middle-order batsman Suresh Raina completed 5,000 runs in the Indian Premier League. He became the first player to complete the landmark in the competition and achieved during Chennai’s opening game played against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M.Chidambaram Stadium.
Before the game, Raina needed 15 runs to complete 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League. Left-hander came to the crease early as Shane Watson perished for a duck. He achieved the milestone after picking up a single in the 9th over of the innings. Raina was eventually dismissed for 19 on a sluggish pitch that provided assistance to the spinners. He has been consistent performer with the bat in the history of the competition.
Raina has been certainly been the most prolific run-scorer in the Indian Premier League since its inception.
Chennai Super Kings will be hoping that Raina can score heavily in this year’s tournament. Previously Raina, played for Gujarat Lions and scored 841 runs in the two seasons. Raina is closely followed by RCB Captain Virat Kohli, who has scored 4954 runs in 164 matches. Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma has scored 4493 runs in 173 matches at an average of 31.86.
Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa are also in the elite list of batsmen, who scored more than 4000 runs in the history of Indian Premier League. Certainly, records are expected to be broken with plenty of players reaching milestones in this year’s tournament.
Certainly, the focus will be on Suresh Raina, who is one of the most bankable for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Besides Shane Watson and MS Dhoni, he certainly needs to bring his A-game to the table to help Chennai claim their fourth trophy this season.
