Bangladesh has appointed India’s Sunil Joshi as spin consultant for the coming series against Australia. S Sriram will continue to give his services for Australia as visitors spin duo of Steven O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon enjoyed a lot of success in India earlier this year.
Bangladesh has shown considerable improvement as a side in Test cricket in the last two years. The side won a historic game at Chittagong to level the two-match series against England played at home last year.
Australia’s biggest weakness of late has been spin as the side got thrashed in Sri Lanka a few seasons ago but came back well to compete well in India in the four-match Test series. Bangladesh will aim to prepare wickets that suit their style of play and make sure they keep Australian pacers out of the equation.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had also shown interest in Australia’s Stuart MacGill who somehow could not take the offer due to personal reasons. Joshi was then considered as the next best option given his experience of playing in such conditions for a long period of time.
Sunil Joshi has represented India in 15 Test matches and 69 One Day Internationals and also played for India in the first-ever Test against Bangladesh in 2000.
