Steven O’Keefe replaces Josh Hazlewood for the second Test against Bangladesh

Steven O’Keefe has been included in the Australian squad for the second Test against Bangladesh. The left-arm spinner was left out of the squad as Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson were given preference for the series. He has come in place of Josh Hazlewood who got injured in the first Test due to a side strain.

The spinner is currently serving a suspension from Cricket New South Wales but will replace Hazlewood for the series. Josh Hazlewood sent down only two overs on the morning of third day of the first Test after suffering from side strain that will keep him out for at least four weeks.

O’ Keefe was fined 20,000 Australian dollars by Cricket Australia. He was suspended from the domestic one day cup by New South Wales for making inappropriate statements during an award function held in Sydney. The result was that he lost on an opportunity to clinch a Cricket Australia central contract and was not picked for Bangladesh series.

However, Australia picked  Steven O’Keefe as they felt that Bangladesh is going to prepare another turning surface at Dhaka. He could play the second Test at Dhaka as Trevor Hohns said that the side is confident of making 1-1 in the two match series against Bangladesh. Jackson Bird is the third front-line seamer picked by Australia for the tour besides Pat Cummins who did play the first Test.
