South Africa name Test, T20I and ODI squads for West Indies and Ireland tours

South Africa have announced Test, T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming tours of West Indies and Ireland. Temba Bavuma will lead the side in T20I and ODI formats, while newly-appointed Test captain Dean Elgar will lead the side for the series in the Caribbean.

Rookie pacer Lizaad Williams has retained his place in the T20I and ODI squads after performing reasonably well for South Africa in the previous series against Pakistan. Sisanda Magala is another player who have received from the selectors despite not doing well in the previous series against Pakistan.

Cricket South Africa named Dean Elgar as the new captain of the Test side. This is first assignment as captain of South Africa. He decided to replace Quinton de Kock, who was reluctant to lead the side in the five-day format.

Off-spinner Prenalan Subrayen have received his maiden call-up to the Test side for the West Indies series. Besides Subrayen, the likes of Tabraiz Shamsi, George Linde and Keshav Maharaj are prominent spinners picked for the two-match Test series against West Indies.

Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams, Keegan Petersen, Prenalan Subrayen and Sarel Erwee are six uncapped players included in South Africa’s Test squad for the upcoming series against West Indies.

CSA’s convenor of selectors, Victor Mpitsang said that the squads have picked keeping in mind the conditions prevalent in West indies and Ireland. The inclusion of spinners was necessary as South Africa expects to be slow and low conditions for the Test series against West Indies.
