South Africa climb to second position in the ICC Test Rankings
|South Africa secured second position in the latest ICC Test Rankings after completing a 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan in the Test series. Faf du Plessis led-unit managed to beat Pakistan in the third and final game of the series by 107 runs to secure a clean sweep. With this result, South Africa has managed to move ahead of England and New Zealand in the ICC Test Rankings.
On the other hand, Pakistan have dropped to seventh position following their 3-0 thrashing at the hands of South Africa. In pursuit of 381 runs, Pakistan were bundled out for just 273 runs in 65.4 overs to see South Africa win by 107 runs in the third game played at The Wanderers, Johannesburg.
South Africa have been formidable at home over the past couple of years. They have managed to beat top teams like India, Australia and Pakistan in red-ball cricket. The focus will be to replicate that success on overseas tours where they still lack the firepower. The Proteas had a dismal tour to Sri Lanka, where they were beaten in the two-match Test series.
Faf du Plessis and co. have earned four points and are now with 110 points in the ICC Test Team Rankings. England, are at third place with 108 points while New Zealand are a point behind at fourth position. India currently sits at the top of the table after winning their maiden Test series in Australia earlier this month.
Pakistan are sitting at seventh place with 88 points and have dropped four points following their whitewash at the hands of South Africa in the three-match Test series. England will need to beat West Indies to maintain their spot in ICC Test Team Rankings or else New Zealand would overtake them to secure third place.Australia are lying fifth in the latest ICC Team Rankings with 104 points to their name.
