Shivnarine Chanderpaul named new head coach of USA Women’s cricket team
|Former West Indies batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has been named head coach of United States of America (USA) women’s national cricket team. He will also have responsibility of looking for USA U-19 side. Chanderpaul has signed a 1.5 year deal with USA cricket board, which will keep till the end of 2023.
From 5th July, U-19 T20 Championship is expected to begin in Trinidad and Tobago, U-19 side will be keen to deliver a decent show in the event. Earlier, Chanderpaul has a decent coaching experience. The left-hander batsman was a batting consultant for U-19 West Indies cricket team. In the Caribbean Premier League, Chanderpaul is currently the coach of Jamaica Tallawahs.
After his appointment as USA Women’s national cricket team, Shivnarine Chanderpaul expressed his happiness and said he was excited to work with current crop of players playing in America. He further stated that women’s game has progressed well but the support from administrators and fans should be more to promote the game to a global level.
After residing in Orlando, Chanderpaul is happy to the take the role of head coach for United States of America. He said that he will use his experience of playing at the highest level and help women refine their skills in bid to play at the highest level. He said that the plan is to prepare the national side adequately for the inaugural Under 19 Cricket World Cup that will be played in January this year.
Richard Done, who is currently Operations Director for USA cricket, expressed his pleasure after appointing Shivnarine Chanderpaul as head coach of women’s cricket team. A career spanning almost two decades, Chanderpaul will share a lot of knowledge and valuable tips for young cricketers to excel in the early part of their careers.
After playing 454 international matches for West Indies and captaining Men in Maroon, Chanderpaul is ideal candidate for the role of head coach for USA women’s cricket team. He has closely worked with top-class players including women players in the West Indies.
Done said that the experience that Shivnarine Chanderpaul brings to the dressing room is invaluable and will play a critical role in the development of young players, who want to play cricket for USA in the future. Chanderpaul’s passion for the women’s cricket was enough to be first choice for the role of head coach for USA women’s cricket team.
