Rubel Hossain named as replacement for injured Mohammad Saifuddin in Bangladesh’s squad

Bangladesh fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin has been ruled out of the ongoing T20 World Cup with a back pain. The 24-year-old has been replaced in the 15-man-squad by senior fast bowler Rubel Hossain.

According to the official press release from Bangladesh Cricket Board, “Saifuddin suffered from a discomfort on the left side of his back after the game played against Sri Lanka. He has been sent back to Bangladesh and will undergo further examination to reveal the extent of the injury.

BCB media manager and communication said that Saifuddin will take no further in the ICC T20 World Cup due to back problem.

In the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Mohammad Saifuddin had back problems and missed a couple of matches for Bangladesh. The pacer has received a lot of criticism due to his injuries.

The Technical Committee of the ICC T20 World Cup has given approval for Rubel Hossain, who has been named as replacement player for Saifuddin in the Bangladesh’s squad.

Since making his debut in 2017, Mohammad Saifuddin has been a regular member in the T20 setup. He has played 29 T20Is for Bangladesh, in which he has taken 31 wickets at an average of 26.64 with an economy rate of 8.26.

Experienced pacer Rubel Hossain has played 159 matches for Bangladesh. In the T20 format, Rubel Hossain has played 28 matches for Bangladesh, in which he has taken 28 wickets at an average of 32.57.

Initially, Rubel Hossain has named as a reserve player and did travel with the squad to the United Arab Emirates. In case of injuries or covid-19 pandemic, every team is allowed to take extra players for the showpiece event.

In the three-matches played in the Round 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup, Mohammad Saifuddin claimed four wickets. In his previous game against Sri Lanka, he finished with figures of 1 for 38 in his four overs.
