Perth Scorchers rope in Mitchell Johnson for the forthcoming season of Big Bash League
|Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has been retained by Perth Scorchers for the next season of the Big Bash League. The left-arm quick is going to have his second season of the competition with Scorchers after helping them lift the crown last season on his debut for the franchise. Johnson took 13 wickets in the competition with an average of 15.46 that included his menacing spell against Melbourne Stars in which he took three wickets upfront to help Scorchers cruise to the finals of the competition.
He was most economical bowler in the last season of Big Bash League and bowled a lot of maiden overs for Scorchers. Johnson’s performances in the competition were instrumental in helping Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers in the grand finale and clinch the coveted trophy.
Johnson said that signing with Perth Scorchers for another season was not a difficult decision as he enjoyed playing with all the players who are part of the squad. The 35-year old stated that he might have called it a day after winning Big Bash League with Perth Scorchers and then clinching Indian Premier League title with Mumbai Indians. He felt that he has lot to offer and would try his best to replicate his last year’s performances in the coming season.
The left-arm fast bowler had already retired from the international game and played his last Test against New Zealand at Perth. He has always enjoyed being challenged and considered WACA Ground a special place in his cricketing career for various reasons.
Perth Scorchers look more than pleased with Johnson being resigned by the franchise for the upcoming season of Big Bash League.
