Morne Morkel ruled out of second game against Bangladesh, Paterson named replacement
|Dane Paterson is the replacement named for Morne Morkel after the pace bowler suffered a side strain during the first Test against Bangladesh played at Potchefstroom. Morkel will be out of action for atleast 6 weeks after thorough assessment done by medical staff.
The 32-year old will also miss the opening games of inaugural T20 Global League where he will be representing his franchise Pretoria Mavericks in the competition. Dane Paterson is certain to make his debut in the second game at Bloemfontein. South Africa Team Manager Dr. Muhammad Moosajee said that Morne has suffered from a grade-2 tear in his left abdominal muscle which means he will out for six weeks due to injury.
South Africa is already plagued with injuries in the bowling department as Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander are out due to injuries. Morkel’s injury is also big blow to South Africa as he is one of three best bowlers in the country and is a first-choice seamer for the side in Test Cricket.
