Melbourne Stars has named Andre Fletcher as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow, who decided not to participate in this year’s Big Bash League. England opener is scheduled to be with the national side to prepare for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Wicket-keeper batsman Andre Fletcher is currently with West Indies squad in New Zealand. He will be available for Melbourne Stars till 26th January. Andre Fletcher expressed his pleasure after being signed by Melbourne Stars for this year’s competition. He said that he will be keen to play alongside international stars like Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis this season.
Melbourne Stars Head Coach David Hussey said that the franchise have suffered setback with Jonny Bairstow being unavailable for this year’s competition. He said that the team management opted to pick a player who was playing competitive cricket during period, so our obvious pick was Andre Fletcher, who was currently playing for West Indies in New Zealand.
On the other hand, Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has been signed by Melbourne Renegades as an overseas player. He will join world-class players like Rilee Rossouw, Noor Ahmed, Imran Tahir and Mohammad Nabi in the Melbourne Renegades setup for this year’s competition.
Earlier this month, Imad Wasim led from the front to help Karachi Kings clinch their maiden PSL trophy with a comprehensive win over Lahore Qalandars. Left-arm spinner also participate in the T20 Blast and played 11 matches for Nottinghamshire.
Imad led the Karachi Kings to their Pakistan Super League title last month and has also featured in 11 games for Nottinghamshire in the T20 Blast.
Melbourne Renegades Coach, Michael Klinger said that Imad Wasim is one of the most accomplished players in the T20 format and has the ability to win games of cricket with bat and ball. He further stated that Wasim ability to bowl in the Powerplay overs is a big plus, while also having the experience of leading a franchise to clinch PSL title.
