Melbourne Renegades sign two-year deal with Sophie Molineux

Left-arm orthodox spin, Sophie Molineux has signed a two-year contract with Melbourne Renegades. The player signed an extension with Melbourne Renegades till the end of 2024 Big Bash League.

The 24-year old has been named captain of Melbourne Renegades for the 2021 Big Bash League. Molineux said that she is super excited to stay at the franchise and do well with the ball in hand. She further stated that he was greatly helped by then captain Simon Helmot. Molineux said that it will be great to play cricket in front of Melbourne crowds.

Since making his debut for inaugural edition of BBL, Sophie Molineux has made 87 appearances for Melbourne Renegades. She was part of the Australia’s women cricket team that has won two T20I World Cups. She has been a regular member of the Australia team across all three formats.

In the seventh edition of BBL, Sophie Molineux was the most economical bowlers in the competition. She conceded less than six runs an over in the tournament. Left-arm orthodox spinner claimed 10 wickets. In the history of WBBL, Sophie Molineux has claimed 67 wickets.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten said that Sophie Molineux is one of the premier spinners to have played for Australia at the international level. She is a fantastic cricketer who works hard to make a contribution with the bat and ball.

The 24-year old has been a proven performer for Australia at the international level and done exceedingly well in all three formats. As a skipper, Sophie Molineux was sensational to say the least and worked well with head coach Simon Helmot in his first season.

She is a passionate to lead the Melbourne Renegades to win the coveted Big Bash League trophy. She would be keen to make an impact with the ball in hand for Melbourne Renegades.
