Marcus Harris signs for Leicestershire for the coming season of English County Championship

Rookie opener Marcus Harris has been signed by Leicestershire for the upcoming season of English County Championship. Australian opener will be available for the whole season of County Championship and Royal London ODI Cup played late in the season.

The opportunity will certainly help Marcus Harris understand his game as a player. A lot of Australian batsmen have struggled to score in English conditions in the past decade. Harris has performed exceedingly well in the domestic competition played in Australia.

The 28-year old enjoyed a great season with Victoria and accumulated 516 runs at an average of 64.50.  He produced career best innings of 239 runs and produced opening stand of 486 with Will Pucovski against South Australia. Due to his impressive form, he was called into the Australia Test squad for the series decider at the Gabba in Brisbane. In his comeback game, Harris could only produce scores of 5 and 38 respectively.

Despite his impressive numbers in the Sheffield Shield competition, Harris has failed to make an impact with the bat for Australia in the five-day format.

In 10 Tests played for Australia, Marcus Harris has scored 428 runs at an average of 23.77 with two half-centuries to his name.

Leicestershire Coach, Paul Nixon said that Marcus has been a consistent performer in the Sheffield Shield competition in Australia. His inclusion will certainly bolster the batting resources for the coming season of English County Championship.

Nixon further stated that Harris has played 10 Tests for Australia and will certainly bring valuable experience to the squad. He is also decent batsman in the white-ball cricket and could prove to be success in Royal London ODI Cup.

After signing with Leicestershire, Haris expressed his utmost pleasure and gratitude of having a chance to showcase his skills in English conditions. He said that he is looking forward to playing for Leicestershire in the coming season of English County Championship.
