Jason Holder, Darren Bravo included in West Indies Test squad for Sri Lanka series
|West Indies Cricket Board have announced their 13-member squad for the opening game of the Test series against West Indies. Kraigg Brathwaite has been appointed full-time captain of the side, while Jason Holder and Darren Bravo return to the side after missing previous series against Bangladesh due to covid-19 concerns.
Middle-order batsman Jermaine Blackwood has been named vice-captain of the Test side and will act as a deputy to Kraigg Brathwaite. The likes of Roston Chase, Shamarh Brooks, and Shane Dowrich continued to be unavailable for selections due to a various reasons. West Indies managed to pull a historic series win in Bangladesh after almost ten players opted not to tour the country due to ongoing covid-19 Pandemic.
Chief Selector, Roger Harper, said that the selection committee has decided to with the group of players that did exceedingly well in the Bangladesh series. The youngsters showed a lot of desire, passion and determination to do well for West Indies in the five-day format. Consistency in selection is crucial to success.
The likes of Kyle Mayers, Nkrumah Bonner, Joshua De Silva and Rahkeem Cornwall made most of the opportunity presented to them and played exceedingly well in the two-match series played in Bangladesh. It will be interesting how new-look West Indies go in their home conditions.
The first Test will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua from 25th March. The second and final Test of the series will be played at Antigua from 29th March till 2nd April. On the other hand, Sri Lanka have named their Test squad for the two-match series. Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the side for the Test series.
