India’s Virat Kohli completes 2000 runs in the T20 format
|Indian Captain Virat Kohli has added another milestone in his illustrious career spanning almost a decade. Kohli achieved the landmark during the opening T20I game against England played at Old Trafford, Manchester. India’s premier batsman became the quickest to score 2,000 runs in the T20 format.
Indian Captain produced unbeaten 22 runs off 20 balls in the first game against India to steer his side to a comfortable victory at Manchester. Lokesh Rahul was the star of the show for India with a splendid unbeaten century. Earlier, Left-arm Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav ran through England’s middle order to see hosts manage 159 runs off their 20 overs.
Virat Kohli also became the first Indian player to score 2,000 runs in the T20 format. The 29-year old has scored 2012 runs in 56 innings at a splendid average of 49.07 with 18 half-centuries to his name. He has been a consistent performer for the side in the shortest format of the game and clearly will be keen to score runs in the remaining two games of the series against England.
Earlier, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum held the record for being the quickest to score 2,000 runs in 71 games. India’s Virat Kohli has bettered it by completing the milestone in just 60 games.
He became the fourth batsman in score over 2,000 runs in the T20 format. New Zealand’s duo of Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum, Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik are other three players in the list. Shoaib Malik completed 2,000 runs in the T20 game against Zimbabwe played on Sunday.
Kohli also managed to complete 2,000 runs in 56 innings while McCullum had taken 66 innings to achieve the feat. India’s Rohit Sharma is just 19 runs short of completing 2,000 runs in the T20 format. He will definitely be keen to produce something special for India in the next two games against England and try to help India clinch T20 series.
