|Virat Kohli and co. reached the top summit in one-day rankings due to their maiden series win in South Africa.
India has climbed to the top spot in the limited-overs format according to the latest ICC ODI Team Rankings. Virat Kohli’s side recently clinched their maiden series win in South Africa after beating the hosts in the fifth game of the series played at Port Elizabeth.
The visitors were placed second in the table with 119 points before the start of the six-match one-day series against South Africa. India will keep their no.1 ranking irrespective of who turns out to be the winner in the final game played at Centurion. India have taken a 4-1 lead in the six-match series. The side has 122 points according to the latest rankings with South Africa dropped to second place with 118 points.
It will be a great opportunity for Virat Kohli and co. to extend their lead at the top if they are able to win the last game of the series at SuperSport Park, Centurion. South Africa would be keen to salvage some pride after getting hammered in the five games played so far. If England wins all their games against New Zealand in the upcoming five-match series, they will climb to second place to see South Africa drop down to third in ICC ODI Team Rankings.
India produced a dominant display with bat and ball throughout the one-day series with South Africa gaining only one consolation win at Johannesburg in a rain-affected game. South Africa could maintain the no.1 ranking had they to draw the six-match one-day series against India.
