Imran Tahir punished by ICC for sporting an inappropriate t-shirt during second T20 game against Srilanka
|South Africa’s premier leg spinner Imran Tahir has been officially warned by International Cricket Council for his on-field antics in the T20 game against Srilanka.Tahir’s wicket celebration saw him make a quick sprint in his typical fashion and pull up his Proteas shirt to expose his t-shirt displaying a picture of pop star turned religious scholar Junaid Jamshed.
The leg spinner was paying tribute to an icon from Pakistan but ICC reiterated the fact that the individual player cannot sport a thing related to religious or political view without having a formal consent from the cricketing authorities. Tahir did admit to his wrong act and accepted the sanctions imposed by ICC.Junaid Jamshed was a popular pop music icon from Pakistan who turned to religion in the late 2000 and recently passed away in a plane crash near Islamabad.
Tahir so far has played over 100 games for South Africa and has a credible record as a player before this incident
