England climb up in ICC Test Rankings post India series triumph

England have climbed to fourth position in the latest ICC Test Rankings after their comprehensive 4-1 series win against India. In the fifth and final game of the series played at The Oval, England completed a 118-run win over India to end their home season on a high.

Joe Root and co. really surprised everyone with their performances in the five-match series against India. Before the start of the series, no one expected England to win the contest so easily as India looked a strong side on paper.

England were placed at fifth position in the ICC Test Rankings for Teams with 97 points. A series win helped gain eight points and dislodge New Zealand to take fourth place in the table. England now has 105 points at the moment while New Zealand is three points behind at fifth position.

Everything went wrong for India in the five-match series but there glimpses shown by the likes of Lokesh Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who fought valiantly in the final game of the series. The duo smashed tons as India looked on course to draw the game but Adil Rashid dismissed Rahul through a magical delivery that turned sharply from the pitch to strike the stumps. It was a momentous occasion for England’s premier bowler James Anderson, who crossed Glenn McGrath tally of 563 wickets to become the most successful bowler in the history of the game.

India is still at the top of the ICC Test Rankings even after suffering a 4-1 defeat in the five-match Test series against England. They have lost 10 points in the process and are now six points ahead of South Africa, who are placed second in the table. India’s next assignment is a home series against West Indies. Virat Kohli and co. will be looking to get back to winning ways against a weak West Indies side.

On the other hand, England is all set to tour Sri Lanka to play a three-match Test series in the coming month of October.
