Delhi Capital’s Shikhar Dhawan completes 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League

Swashbuckling opener Shikhar Dhawan added another milestone to his name by completing 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League. Shikhar Dhawan has been in excellent form with the bat and smashed his third half-century in the competition at Kings XI Punjab.

Left-hander complete the 5000-run landmark when he reached the score of 62 runs in the game played against Kings XI Punjab. Shikhar Dhawan took 169 T20 games to complete the milestone and fourth Indian to complete 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League. Other Indian players in the illustrious list are Virat Kohli (5759 in 186 matches), Suresh Raina (5468 in 183 matches), Rohit Sharma (5149 runs in 196 matches) to complete 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League.

The 34-year old completed the milestone as he smashed Ravi Bishnoi for a big six in the 13th over of the innings. In the previous game, he smashed a match-winning hundred for Delhi Capitals. Axar Patel smashed three sixes in the final over against Ravindra Jadeja to see Delhi overcome Chennai in a high-octane clash.

Against Kings XI Punjab, Shikhar Dhawan notched upon his second century in the Indian Premier League. The southpaw took 68 deliveries to complete his hundred in the 14th over and also smashed nine boundaries and two sixes in his innings.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat. Rookie opener Prithvi Shaw lean run with the bat as perished for a single-digit score. In-form Shikhar Dhawan and Skipper Shreyas Iyer put on a crucial partnership to help Delhi Capitals post a competitive score on the board.

Currently, Shikhar Dhawan is leading the batting charts for Delhi Capitals in the competition. Left-hander has accumulated 471 runs in 12 matches at an average of 58.87 with two centuries and two half-centuries. Team management will be hoping that Dhawan can continue his rich vein of form for Delhi Capitals in the remaining round-robin matches.
