Daniel Sams named replacement for Jason Roy by Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have named Daniel Sams as replacement for injured Jason Roy for the upcoming season of 2020 Indian Premier League. Jason Roy has decided to not participate in this year’s Indian Premier League due to personal reasons.

The 30-year old was ruled out of the T20I series against Pakistan and will also miss upcoming series against Australia due to a side strain. He will be looking to get fit as soon as possible and become available Surrey in the ongoing Vitality T20 Blast competition.

Left-arm quick Daniel Sams earned his maiden call-up to the national side and is currently Australia cricket team in England. Once the tour ends in England, he will fly to the UAE in order to play matches for Delhi Capitals.

Sams said that he is extremely honored to make his debut in the Indian Premier League. He stated that he is fortunate to get called by Delhi Capitals for this year’s competition. He also expressed his gratitude towards Delhi Capitals management for roping in him as a potential replacement for Jason Roy for the coming season.

Jason Roy became the second English player for Delhi Capitals to opt out of the competition. Earlier this year, all-rounder Chris Woakes pulled out of the competition in order to remain fit and available for international duties. In September, Delhi Capitals signed Anrich Nortje in order to cover the loss of Chris Woakes.

Delhi Capitals might not miss the services of Jason Roy as they have Shikhar Dhawan, Alex Carey and Prithvi Shaw as openers for this year’s competition. Ajinkya Rahane is another notable addition to the batting department.

Daniel Sam’s inclusion would certainly provide value with bat and ball. The 27-year old had done exceedingly well for Sydney Thunder in last year’s Big Bash League. He finished the competition as leading wicket-taker. He is all set to make his debut for Australia in the series against England.
