Colin Munro signs for Perth Scorchers for coming BBL season
|Swashbuckling opener Colin Munro has been signed by Perth Scorchers for the forthcoming season of Big Bash League. Left-hander has put in impressive numbers for New Zealand in the T20 format and has played in various leagues around the world such as Indian Premier League and Caribbean Premier League.
Colin Munro expressed his joy after being signed by Perth Scorchers. The 33-year old will be keen to make an impact with the bat for Perth Scorchers. He said that the Perth Scorchers have world-class players in the world and he was looking to play for the side this season.
Being a veteran player in the T20 format, Colin Munro has played 270 matches, in which he has scored 6,515 runs at an average of 29.21 with four centuries and thirty-nine half-centuries to his name. At the international stage for New Zealand, Munro has been a bankable player in the T20 format and accumulated 1724 runs in 65 matches at an average of 31.34 with an impressive strike-rate of 156.44, which includes four centuries and thirty-nine half-centuries.
According to the ICC’s T20I rankings for batsmen, Colin Munro is currently placed at fifth position. Perth Scorchers have signed England duo of Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone to bolster the batting resources for the coming BBL season.
While Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone will miss the early part of the BBL season due to England’s one-day series against South Africa. Munro will be available for the remaining matches of Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers.
After not being awarded central contract by New Zealand cricket board this year, Munro will be looking to make an impression with the bat in the coming BBL season.
Earlier this year, Colin Munro was instrumental with the bat for Trinbago Knight Riders and helped the win their fourth Caribbean Premier League trophy. Left-hander finished the competition with 207 runs at a strike rate of 133.54 with two half-centuries to his name.
Perth Scorchers Head Coach Adam Voges said that Munro signing will certainly bring a lot of potency to the top-order for the coming season of Big Bash League.
