Bangladesh include Sabbir Rahman for the second Test against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh have named Sabbir Rahman as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan ahead of the second game of the series against Sri Lanka. The hosts have gone for extra batting option to bolster their resources in the department.

Shakib Al Hasan is set to miss the second Test due to a finger injury that he suffered in the first game against Sri Lanka. The all-rounder has been a big player for Bangladesh and delivered match-winning performances for the side against England and Australia at home.

Sabbir Rahman has not set the world alight with his batting performance. The right-handed batsman has scored 480 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 26. He was not included in the Bangladesh squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka. Sabbir also failed to live up to expectations during the Bangladesh tri-series featuring Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ended in a tame draw as both sides scored a lot of runs on a placid surface. The second Test will begin on Sunday in Chittagong between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that the surface prepared for the second game at Chittagong mostly like favor spinners so Sabbir has been included as extra batsmen in the Test squad.

Left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam and fast bowler Rubel Hossain have been dropped from the side but uncapped Naeem Hasan and Abdul Razzak have managed to keep their places in the squad for the second Test. Mahmudullah Riyad will captain the side in the second game as Shakib Al Hasan is set to miss the game due to injury.
