Azhar Ali calls time on his one day captaincy after series loss in Australia
|There is big news coming from Pakistan Cricket as Azhar Ali has resigned from one day captaincy citing reasons that the role was affecting his batting side. Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to be named as the new one day captain after taking over the reins in the T20 format last year. Azhar faced tough period as captain of the side but performed well with the bat.
The series in Australia was final blow to his captaincy as the side suffered 4-1 defeat at the hands of Australians. He led the side in almost ten bilateral one day series in which Pakistan only managed to win against Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe. The side lost to all the big sides in the format.
Former cricket greats also praised the decision made by Azhar Ali as they felt Sarfaraz Ahmed is right choice to lead the side in all formats in the future. Sarfaraz has been impressive with the bat in one day cricket scoring over 1400 runs at an average of 34 from 67 games.
Azhar Ali also confirmed his resignation as vice-captain of the test side through his social media account.
