Asela Gunaratne ruled out of the series against India due to fractured thumb
|Sri Lankan all-rounder Asela Gunaratne has been ruled out for the remainder of the first Test at Galle against India after suffering from a fractured thumb while fielding at second slip. He sustained the injury while attempting to take a sharp catch off fast bowler Lahiru Kumara of the opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan.
Gunaratne had to leave the field as he was visibly in a lot of discomfort holding his hand and was rushed to hospital for further examination on his injury. He is set to take no part in the remaining games of the series. Sri Lanka have uphill task on their hands as they will only 10 players for both the innings against India.
In his short span of career, Asela Gunaratne has made quite a name for himself amassing over 450 runs in five games at an average of 56. His recent spectacular innings against Zimbabwe helped Sri Lanka complete their highest ever fourth inning score at home to win the game.
