Anil Kumble appointed head coach of Kings XI Punjab for coming edition of IPL

Former Indian Captain Anil Kumble has been named as the head coach of Kings XI Punjab for the coming season of Indian Premier League. After Mike Hesson decided to relinquish the post of head coach, Anil Kumble’s appointment will certainly bring stability to the franchise.

After his appointment, Kumble said that, “I am honored and will be looking to get the best results out of the squad for the coming season of Indian Premier League.”

Kumble further stated that he will try and make sure that the franchise can turn their fortunes around in the next year’s Indian Premier League. Anil Kumble has served in the capacity of mentor for Mumbai Indians. He also went on to become head coach of the Indian national cricket team.

In his playing days, he was captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore and led the franchise in the first two editions of Indian Premier League. Kings XI Punjab had been perennial underachievers in the history of Indian Premier League. Last season, Punjab once again failed to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League.

2014 was the last time Punjab qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament. The bigger challenge for Anil Kumble will to make sure that the franchise can sign good players and work out their best combination for the coming edition of Indian Premier League.

Anil Kumble will certainly bring vast of experience and value to the franchise. The owners and team management will be focused to sign promising players in the IPL Auction event. Many cricket pundits believe that the franchise’s strategy to sign renowned players has not worked well in the past.

With Kumble’s appointment, the franchise would be looking to bring in some young players in a bid to do well in the coming edition of Indian Premier League.
