All-rounder Deandra Dottin retires from international cricket with immediate effect
|All-rounder Deandra Dottin has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. She made a formal announcement after Barbados’s comprehensive defeat at the hands of Australia in 2022 Commonwealth Games. In her final international game, Deandra Dottin scored struggled to get going and was dismissed for just eight runs. She also conceded 25 runs in one over against Australia.
On a renowned social media platform, Deandra Dottin said that she has encountered a lot of obstacles during her cricket career. She further said that current team environment is far from ideal and she needs to reignite her passion for the game. She clearly said that current team culture has hampered her chances of performing to the best of her abilities.
Since making her debut in 2008, Deandra Dottin played 146 ODIs for West Indies women cricket team. She accumulated 3,727 runs at an average of 30.54 with three centuries and twenty-two half-centuries. In the T20 format, Dottin has accumulated 2,697 runs in 126 T20Is at an average of 25.93 with two centuries and twelve half-centuries.
Besides her destructive ability with the bat at the top of the innings, Dottin also was handy bowler for West Indies women’s national cricket team. In the ODI format, Dottin claimed 72 wickets at an average of 27.19 with three four-fors and one five-for.
In the T20 format, Deandra Dottin has claimed 62 wickets at an average of 18.95 with one five-wicket haul to his name. There is no doubt that Deandra Dottin was a complete match-winner for West Indies women’s cricket team in white-ball cricket.
In her full statement, Dottin said that it has absolute honor to play for West Indies women cricket team for almost 14 years. She said that she has work hard to reach this stage and time has come to retire from international cricket.
With Deandra Dottin retiring from international cricket, it will be interesting to see whether she plays her last match for Barbados against India in the final group game of the Commonwealth Games 2022. She stated that she would continue to play domestic cricket and participate in various T20I Leagues happening across the globe.
